What is metabolism?
Do you know people who complain about how they barley eat anything and yet they gain weight or some people who can eat whatever they want including large portions of junk food but never gain weight?
In both the cases it’s obvious for you to feel “That’s not fair!” ☹️ The actual reason behind this is their metabolic rate.
WHAT EXACTLY IS METABOLISM?
Metabolism is defined as the series of chemical reactions occurring in living organisms that include synthesis and breakdown of substances to yield energy necessary to life. Metabolic Rate is the rate at which metabolism occurs. Simply, it’s the rate at which your body expends energy or burns calories.
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the rate at which the body uses energy while at rest to maintain vital functions like breathing & maintaining body temperature. How fast your body’s “engine” runs on average overtime, determines your metabolic rate. If your metabolic rate is high, you will burn more calories at rest & during activity and that’s the reason why some people can eat more than others without gainig weight. A person with a low BMR will burn fewer calories and therefore eats less to avoid becoming overweight.
CAN WE CHANGE THE METABOLIC RATE?
The answer is YES.
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?
Although it has a genetic component, metabolic rate can be changed by diet and exercise…
